Mail*LIST and Mail*STAR are required to express DPV results using USPS standard two character footnotes.

Footnotes Reporting CASS™ ZIP+4™ Certification

• • AA – Input address matched to the ZIP+4 file.
  • A1 – Input address not matched to the ZIP+4 file.

Footnotes Reporting DPV Validation Observations

• • BB – Matched to DPV (all components).
  • CC – Secondary number not matched (present but invalid).
  • N1 – High-rise address missing secondary number.
  • M1 – Primary number missing.
  • M3 – Primary number invalid.
  • P1 – Input Address RR or HC Box number Missing.
  • P3 – Input Address PO, RR, or HC Box number Invalid.
  • F1 – Input Address Matched to a Military Address.
  • G1 – Input Address Matched to a General Delivery Address.
  • U1- Input Address Matched to a Unique ZIP Code™.

Footnotes Reporting CMRA Observation

A commercial mail-receiving agency (   ) is a private business that is approved to accept mail on behalf of third parties. If the delivery address matches to a CMRA location, one of the following footnotes will appear.

• • RR – Matched to CMRA.
  • R1 – Matched to CMRA but secondary number not present.

USPS Standardized DPV Validation Codes

The three single character codes associated with DPV validation set only if the address has been ZIP+4 coded. These characters are here referenced as:

DPV ZIP+4 Coded – domain = {‘ ‘,’Y’,’S’,’D’,’N’}

• • blank when the address was not ZIP+4 coded
  • ‘N’ when standardized but NOT DPV confirmed
  • ‘Y’ when standardized and DPV confirmed all components
  • ‘S’ when standardized and DPV confirmed for primary number only(secondary number not confirmed)
  • ‘D’ when standardized as a default ZIP+4 record

CMRA – domain = {‘ ‘,’Y’,’N’}

• • blank if DPV confirmed is ‘N’ or the address was not ZIP+4 coded
  • ‘N’ if DPV confirmed {‘Y’,’S’,’D’} and not a CMRA location
  • ‘Y’ if DPV confirmed {‘Y’,’S’,’D’} and is a CMRA location

False Positive – domain = {‘ ‘,’Y’,’N’}

• • blank if DPV confirmed is {‘Y’,’S’,’D’} or the address was not ZIP+4 coded
  • ‘N’ if DPV confirmed is ‘N’ and not a False Positive hit
  • ‘Y’ if DPV confirmed is ‘N’ and there was a False Positive hit.

Delivery Point Validation Processing

DPV® Delivery Point Validation Processing validates address information at the physical delivery point level, so you can identify undeliverable mail prior to mailing. Correcting potential addressing issues can reduce the return mail, which in turn will result in more efficient mail processing and delivery. DPV identifies whether a ZIP + 4® coded address is currently represented in the USPS® delivery file as a known address record and identify potential addressing issues that may hinder delivery.

DPV® Delivery Point Validation Processing includes LACSLink® and SuiteLink® ensuring your mailing lists are complete, correct and current. SuiteLink  matches your provided business name and ZIP + 4 to known USPS data, and appends  suite (secondary) numbers to business addresses where available and LACSLink converts addresses that are changed by local governments for example:

• • Street name changes
  • Renumbering changes or
  • Rural route to street style conversion

Mail*DPV® confirms that:

• • The known address has verifiable primary and secondary data.
  • The known address has verifiable primary but not secondary data.
  • The address cannot be verified as a known address.

* The DPV® Product does not append any missing data or correct any address elements.

DPV Software: Delivery Point Confirmation

The DPV Software process determines if the CASS™ processed address is identified as a Postal Service™ delivery point and detects vacancies and other addressing issues that may hinder delivery.

USPS® DPV Software Delivery Points are single locations where mail is delivered. The U.S. Postal Service® currently delivers to more than 150 million locations. USPS CASS address validation is limited to verifying that an address is in a valid ZIP+4™ range. The DPV Software process identifies if the address is a known USPS delivery point. For example:

702 W OAK ST
DENTON TX 76201

While 702 is CASS matched to the ZIP+4 range of 700-798, it does not DPV confirm. Doors 700 and 704 exist, but 702 does not. Identifying undeliverable addresses reduces return mail, saving processing and postage costs.

Mail*STAR: Address Validation Software

Mail*STAR CASS address validation includes DPV delivery point confirmation. When multiple CASS candidate records exist, DPV results can be used as a tiebreaker.

Mail*LIST: Address Management Software

Mail*LIST delivery point confirmation of CASS processed address lists identifies and classifies address problems so that anomalies can be corrected before they cause return mail.
