It is dangerous to display alternate solutions using data entry fields or to let users pick an address from a list. It is too easy to make a mistake by clicking the wrong address.

Instead, being able to see address candidates will prompt users to add to or improve input address data so that the next “submit” results are in one unambiguous correct CASS™ standardized DPV confirmed address.

The prototype provides an “Accept” button to keep the demo simple. In production, AES believes an “Accept” button is a very bad idea.

Integration for Closed Source Applications

If the target application is a Windows program and is either closed source or the added investigation capability of the address painter is required, consider Mail*PASTE closed-system integration.

Mail*STAR can be configured to emulate keyboard/mouse input of local windows reliably pasting address data into any target window. The Mail*STAR “copy” icon triggers pasting verified address data into the target by:

a)    Locating the target application’s window using all or part of the window’s title
b)    Setting the target window as the foreground window causing it to receive input
c)    Issuing a mouse click on the first target address data field
d)    Formatting and pasting CASS standardized address data navigating target fields
e)    Restoring Mail*STAR as the foreground window

LAN, WAN, WEB based CASS Standardization

Mail*SERVE provides LAN, WAN and WEB based USPS® CASS standardization and DPV delivery point confirmation service to client applications using Perl, PHP, CGI, Java, ASP.NET, C/C++, C#, VisualBasic, PowerBuilder or any programming interface supporting TCP/IP sockets.

C# Java PHP samples are provided which integrate Mail*SERVE CASS/DPV service with web based clients. The following steps are necessary for making USPS CASS standardization DPV confirmation server requests via the API.

• • If necessary, resolve server hostname’s IP address
  • Open the service socket at IP:PORT
  • Issue the Mail*SERVE request receiving the CASS DPV address results
  • Use CASS results to replace raw input address attributes

Applications protect data integrity validating fields during data entry. Similarly, validating addresses during data entry protects address data integrity, reducing return mail and lowering mail costs. Mail*SERVE provides address matching complete with USPS Intelligent Mail® before committing addresses to the database.

    Address Matching API – USPS CASS Software
    Mail*SERVE CASS and DPV® processing are integrated with applications using TCP/IP sockets. The CASS/DPV address server listens for requests responding with CASS standardized, delivery point confirmed and bar-coded addresses. The client application commits reliable USPS addresses to the database.

• • Closed System Integration:
    Closed Source Address Matching – USPS CASS Software
    Mail*PASTE provides address verification to Windows applications using two configuration keys that identify the target application and specify navigation instructions.  Mail*STAR emulates keyboard and mouse input reliably pasting CASS/DPV processed addresses into the target application.

Implementing postal address verification as part of data-entry is an effective defense against undeliverable return mail. CASS standardization and DPV delivery point confirmation of new addresses qualifies for Automated-Mail postage discounts and enhanced mailing service from the very first mailing.

The multi-threaded Mail*SERVE Windows or Linux server is capable of processing 50,000 or more addresses per minute in batch or interactively to thousands of clients concurrently. The TCP/IP socket interface is ideal for LAN, WAN and WEB service integration.

When CASS API Mail*SERVE CASS API Integration returns one and only one recommended address, the application should replace the original address with the standardized address. The Mail*SERVE address reliability, quality flags, DPV, eLOT® and county values shown are available to your application.

Ambiguous addresses cause return mail. This example has three candidate records as shown by the image’s arrow cursor. Note the “1 of 3” pointed to by the arrow. The prototype uses ‹UP-ARROW› ‹DOWN-ARROW› to see address options.

It is doubtful that the original address could be delivered. The prototype did not replace the address because of the ambiguity.

Existing Applications

The user should be warned that the address is ambiguous and be given access to candidates. Mail*SERVE address quality flags and USPS® standard DPV® footnotes are available to the user to help make an informed choice.
If address validation occurs while in direct contact with the recipient, there should be almost no possibility of failure.
